Description
German POW Made Storage BoxOriginal WW2 personal items storage box made by a German prisoner of war who was held at the POW Camp in Alva, Oklahoma. Wooden construction with hand carved dovetailed corners on both box and hinged lid, and thin wood facing with wooden strip runners nailed on top of lid and bottom of box. Has two holes in front [probably for a cord carrying handle] and a small roofing nail at front edge of lid [appears to have had a string attached to handle which would be wrapped around the nail to secure the lid]. Box measures 22 x 15 x 7 inches and is painted a dull finish OD green with original owner's name and POW service number painted in yellow on front of lid--OBGFR. JOSEF KRAMER 6WG-2200. Service number prefix indicates the original owner was processed in the 6th Service Command area. [Original owner not to be confused with the infamous death camp guard of the same name back in Germany!]
Box has the usual wear to painted finish from use [original purpose was probably to store small personal items under bunk bed--the wear to runners on bottom bears this out], with numerous splits and cracks to wood due to use and age. Box was actually found in Alva and a detailed description of the camp's history can be found here:

. Box was probably picked up by a local resident when the camp was shut down after the end of the war and used for storage. Interesting piece for any collector of German POW items and is in good condition. Any questions please feel free to ask.
